Equipment

  • 1 Mug
  • 1 Espresso machine, moka pot or AeroPress
  • 1 Small saucepan
  • 1 Whisk or milk frother

Ingredients

For the Latte

  • 2 tbsp vanilla syrup homemade or store-bought
  • 2 shots espresso or 1/2 cup strong coffee
  • 8 oz whole milk or oat milk

Instructions

Make the Coffee

  • Pour the vanilla syrup into the bottom of a mug.
  • Brew 2 shots of espresso directly over the syrup.
  • Stir until the syrup dissolves into the coffee.

Steam the Milk

  • Heat the milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until steaming.
  • Stop at about 150 degrees F, before it boils.
  • Whisk vigorously or use a frother until the milk is silky and foamy.
  • Pour the milk into the mug, holding back the foam with a spoon.
  • Spoon the foam over the top and serve hot.

Notes

Add syrup to the cup first so it blends. Do not boil the milk. For an iced version, pour syrup over ice, add cold milk and espresso, and stir. Use 1 tablespoon of syrup for a lighter sweetness.
