Equipment

  • 1 Large pot or kettle
  • 1 Fine mesh strainer

Ingredients

For the Tea

  • 4 cups water
  • 4 bags black tea or 2 tbsp loose black tea
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 stick cinnamon

To Finish

  • 1/3 cup sugar adjust to taste
  • 1 cup orange juice fresh preferred
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice fresh preferred

Instructions

Steep the Tea and Spices

  • Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large pot or kettle.
  • Remove from heat and add the black tea bags, whole cloves, and cinnamon stick. Steep for exactly 5 minutes.
  • Remove the tea bags, cloves, and cinnamon stick with a fine mesh strainer or by lifting them out directly.

Build the Tea

  • While the tea is still hot, stir in the sugar until fully dissolved.
  • Stir in the orange juice and lemon juice.
  • Taste and add a little more sugar or lemon juice if you want it sweeter or more tart.

Serve

  • Pour into mugs and garnish with a cinnamon stick or a curl of orange peel. Serve hot.

Notes

Store leftovers in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 3 days. Stir in a fresh splash of orange juice before reheating, since the citrus flavor fades fast. For a dry mix version, combine instant tea, orange drink powder, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves in a jar -- add 2-3 tsp per cup of hot water.
