Equipment

  • 1 Large punch bowl (1+ gallon)
  • 1 Long stirring spoon
  • 1 Ladle for serving

Ingredients

For the Juice Base

  • 2 cups cranberry juice cocktail Ocean Spray recommended -- 100% cranberry is too tart for a crowd
  • 2 cups pineapple juice canned 100% pineapple juice; Dole recommended
  • 1 cup orange juice pulp-free; Simply Orange or store brand

At the Bowl (add just before serving)

  • 1 liter lemon-lime soda Sprite holds bubbles longer than 7UP; add only at serving time -- never in advance
  • 1 bag (16 oz) frozen tropical fruit medley pineapple chunks, mango, strawberry -- acts as edible ice without diluting the punch

Instructions

Prepare the Punch Base (Make Ahead)

  • Combine cranberry juice cocktail, pineapple juice, and orange juice in a large punch bowl or pitcher. Stir to combine. The 2-2-1 ratio (cranberry:pineapple:orange) gives you the deep tropical color and balanced flavor that single-juice punches miss. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Add the frozen tropical fruit directly to the punch bowl as edible ice. It keeps the punch cold without diluting it the way regular ice cubes do. By the time the last piece softens, you'll be on round two. A full 16 oz bag works for a standard punch bowl.

Serve (At Party Time)

  • Pour the cold lemon-lime soda into the punch bowl immediately before guests arrive -- never in advance. Adding it even 30 minutes early means a flat punch by the time the bowl hits the table. If you're serving over a long event, keep extra soda sealed and add per-pitcher as needed.
  • Stir once from the bottom with a long spoon. Do not stir aggressively -- it kills the carbonation. The punch will naturally stratify slightly as guests serve themselves, which is fine.
  • Ladle into cups right away. Serve over additional ice if guests prefer -- the frozen fruit in the bowl keeps the punch cold but individual cups can benefit from a few ice cubes. For large crowds, batch the juice base in advance and add soda to each new pitcherful as needed rather than all at once.

Notes

The 2-2-1 juice ratio (2 cups cranberry : 2 cups pineapple : 1 cup orange) is the tested formula. Do not eyeball it -- the balance matters.
Always add lemon-lime soda at the bowl, never in advance. This is the single biggest difference between a fizzy punch and a flat one.
Frozen tropical fruit from Trader Joe's or any grocery store works -- one bag does the full bowl. Do not add regular ice to the bowl itself.
