Equipment

  • 1 Measuring spoon 1/4 teaspoon size -- do not estimate

Ingredients

For the Shot

  • 1/4 teaspoon food-grade baking soda not baking powder
  • 8 ounces water room temperature
  • 1-2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice optional, recommended
  • 3-4 ice cubes optional

Instructions

Mix the Base

  • Measure exactly 1/4 teaspoon of food-grade baking soda. Do not use baking powder or exceed this amount.
  • If using lemon, add 1-2 teaspoons of fresh lemon juice to an empty glass first.
  • Add 8 ounces of room-temperature water to the glass.

Dissolve and Drink

  • Stir thoroughly until the baking soda is completely dissolved, with no white powder visible at the bottom.
  • Let any fizzing fully settle, about 30-60 seconds, before drinking.
  • Drop in ice cubes now if you want the cold version.
  • Sip over 3-5 minutes. Do not gulp this as a concentrated shot.

Notes

Use only 1/4 teaspoon -- more does not improve results and raises sodium intake. Occasional use only, not a daily drink. Not for people with high blood pressure, kidney disease, heart conditions, pregnancy, or those on prescription medication. Do not substitute baking powder.
